Unique capabilities for the Metals Industry
OMP Metals Solution provides a total supply chain planning software solution to assist metals industry companies achieve world-class supply chain performance, through integration of different planning levels and using best-of-breed techniques at each planning level.
• Network Design and Product Portfolio Optimization
OMP Designer solves questions such as: Which supply, production, distribution and demand network is needed to meet the business strategy? What is the optimum product portfolio? The optimum functioning of each network node includes the definition of production policy strategies (e.g. make to order/make to stock), safety stock levels and suchlike.
• Forecasting
Forecasting is typically done at product family level. For large customers, companies sometimes hold customer-specific inventories that can be called off. OMP Forecaster can be used to generate sales forecasts for metal product families and to forecast the consumption of the call offs on a SKU level for VMI customers. By including cost information, you can even forecast your financials (margin projections). Moreover, Product Life Cycle management and introduction of new products or product families are also managed by this module.
• Sales & Operations Planning
OMP Planner optimizes sales plans and utilization of assets by producing the best products at the best locations so that the operational margin is maximized. In the Sales & Operations Planning process both demand and capacity are shaped. Due to the long lead times, it is critical in the metals industry to do this in an integrated way.
• Master Planning
OMP Planner creates VMI/DRP inventory deployments for replenishing finished product stocks at customer or other distribution location, taking into account production capacity and Make-to-Order demand. You can calculate metal purchase plans and optimize production programs to satisfy demand, comply with due dates, maximize bottleneck throughput and minimize total factory WIP. You can consider both fixed and variable campaigns on various installations such as hot mills, cold mills and galvanizing lines.
• Scheduling
OMP Scheduler synchronizes thousands of production steps across hot mill, cold mill and other downstream operations including packaging and transport. It sequences machine level operations, optimizing coffin shaped hot mill production schedules, synchronized with upstream operations (annealing, scalping etc.). Sequencing is carried out while respecting due dates, minimizing set-ups and WIP and maximizing throughput. Scheduling is typically done by several planners each having their own responsibilities with respect to installations, time horizon and so on. Sophisticated multi-user functionalities are available to support various organizational set-ups.
• Order Management
In the S&OP process, the plan is optimized for margin. In order to stay in line with this optimization, OMP Order Manager checks whether a reservation has been made for a certain order. Orders are allocated to a preplanned demand (forecasts and reservations), so as to achieve better demand management. OMP Order Manager also generates realistic promise dates for order requests, based on Available-To-Promise (ATP) and Capable-To-Promise (CTP).
